The show puts bladesmiths to the test. At Kilroy’s Workshop, you can take your own first step at the anvil. Our community includes students, instructors and makers who have taken their skills from the shop to the competition floor.
About the show
Steel. Skill.
A ticking clock.
Forged in Fire is HISTORY’s bladesmithing competition series, which premiered in 2015. In a typical episode, four smiths work through three elimination rounds, forging blades under time pressure before judges test their work for sharpness, strength and performance.
The final two competitors return to their home forges to recreate a historical weapon. After a final round of testing, one earns the championship title and a $10,000 prize. Special episodes put their own twist on the format.

You don’t need a TV competition to get started.
In a beginner blacksmithing class, learn how heat changes steel and how to move it with a hammer. Bladesmithing builds on those skills to shape a blade.
Choose a project that fits your age and experience. Kilroy’s teaches ages 9 through adult, with age requirements and prerequisites set for each class.

What is Kilroy’s connection to Forged in Fire?
Kilroy’s is the home forge of more than 13 contestants. Students, staff and friends of the shop have brought their skills to the show. Watch the championship stories above.
Can a beginner take a blacksmithing class?
Yes. Choose an introductory class and check its age requirements. You do not need prior experience for beginner classes.
Where can I take classes?
Kilroy’s Workshop has locations in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Littleton, Colorado; and McKinney, Texas. Subjects and schedules vary by campus.
Who will teach my class?
Instructors vary by session. Check the class details or ask our team before booking if you have a particular instructor in mind.
What should I wear to the forge?
Wear closed-toe shoes, jeans and a cotton shirt. Absolutely no synthetic fabrics for hot work, including blacksmithing and welding. We provide welding gear.
